Raveonettes keep Raving on..

Ahhh, a new Raveonettes album that hits the spot, yet misses on some. I love melodic noise, feedback and any band that even remotely sounds like The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Raveonettes do their best to fill that void missing in today's mainstream music.
The first side, song one, "Recharge and Revolt" I fell in love with immediately, but then the album kinda takes a mish mash twist. The Raveonettes are at their best when mixing 50's style guitar with dark lyrics and gobs of noise and this album has only a few songs that stay true to their form. That said, you have to branch out to evolve and they do that here. I'm sure it will grow on me more and more in time because they're one of my favorite bands.

The Love Me Nots release "Thringle"

Phoenix based band and one of my favorites have released "Thringle" a 3 song preview of their upcoming album "The Demon and the Devotee". The songs are just of taste of what's to come. I've heard the album many times and it represents the band on a whole new level. Try not to get these 3 songs stuck in your head, I dare you! Available online at cdbaby.com/cd/lovemenots4 for $2

Smashing Pumpkins tomorrow night!

Some feel this isn't really the Smashing Pumpkins because the only original member is Billy Corgan, but come on - He IS the pumpkins. Anyhoo, I've been waiting months to see them (last time was back in 96), looking forward to the newer songs and some old ones. I hope they play for 3 hrs..

newer vinyl vs old

It may just be my speakers but I'm noticing with some newer vinyl, sound quality is a little less than spectacular on some recordings.
For example, The Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream", re-issued, sounds all warm, loud and fuzzy, where as Silversun Pickups "Carnavas" is kinda, lame. Of course this all could be because of low volume on my end, I don't think I want to wake up all 3 kids with blaring fuzz noise. I'll have to experiment.
